It's Giveaway Day! AKA the post where i giveaway a quilt.

That's right folks, you read that correctly. I'm giving away a quilt.
It's giveaway day over at Sew,Mama,Sew! and you know what that means!

Hundreds of contests to enter! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Come on, who doesn't love a contest?!

So, not wanting to be left out of all the fun i decided to giveaway this little number...

It's been a work in progress for quite sometime now. So i put it on my 2013 FAL list and just recently finished it. This quilt top was one of the first ones i made and because of this it's just not quite good enough to place in my shop. Don't get me wrong, i'm very happy with it and it's not going to fall apart or anything, but a lot of my corners were well off and the quilting is not what i had envisioned. So i want to send it off to someone who will love it for the handmade beauty that it is.

The stats :     36ish" x 38ish" - great size for tummy time, nap time, stroller time, wall hanging...
                         ...you get the idea!
Pieced  with Cloud 9's organic cotton, finished square size is 2"
                    Bamboo batting inside.
Backed with Cloud 9 organics again.
Bound in... yep, Cloud 9 organics. Machine stitched with a decorative stitch.
Also, the fifth row down from the top has some little details of hand embroidery.

And lastly, the quilting. I quilted little +'s on every other intersection and envisioned little o's on the alternating intersections. It would seem that this may or may not have been done while wearing an eye-patch and being chewed on by some sort of wild beast.

Not quite the pretty little +'s and o's i had planned on, but i do like the effect on the back of the quilt, and they all but disappear on the front, kind of? From a distance at least.
The above photo shows a truer representation of the colours, (as well as my misaligned corners).
So while my piecing has definitely improved since then (my free motion quilting, not so much) it's still a lovely quilt (if i do say so myself) and would make some little baby very happy!

Now to the nitty gritty...

  1. I need to learn how to improve my machine skills in general. They aren't my strength.

This is a stunning quilt! Thanks for the wonderful giveaway opportunity!

  2. I would love to improve on my organizational skills so I can find something when I need it!

  3. This is super cute! I am due with my second child in September and do not know the sex yet- this is gender neutral and would be perfect for the baby!

I am new to sewing and would love to improve on all of my sewing skills- apparently I cannot cut straight lines even with a ruler and a roller cutter! So, that would help a bit, I think.

My email address is kudra1978 at aol dot com.

  4. This is beautiful! I love your quilting! Me too for improving on the FMQ though I think I should be allowed the time to practice every day!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Mine skill I would like to improve on is also FMQ

    ReplyDelete
  6. That is REALLY cute.

I need to work on precision in general, during cutting and piecing in specific. FMQ isn't even on my radar right now. :)

    ReplyDelete
  7. What a sweet quilt!! I always wanted some of that cloud print but never did buy any but I have some of the prints in the quilt top. FMQ is at the top of my list to conquer also.eeeeeee!! Constellations is looking sharp and awesome!!

  8. That baby quilt is adorable! I need to improve upon my own FMQing skills. I'm still kind of terrified by it, but need to get over it to finish the giant sampler quilt I'm working on at the moment. Lovely blog!

  10. I think the quilt looks great! I am still afraid of FMQ, so I mostly do straight lines. I hope to overcome that fear. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hmm what I want to improve - everything but mainly my paper piecing - so far I never got beyond the first quarter and then just got too frustrated and mad and threw the whole thing away.

  12. I need to improve my quilting skills, I am just a begginner... Thanks for the giveaway. Ana

  13. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, it's a lovely quilt, maybe not what you had envisioned but you learnt a lot making it! I am determined to learn how to do binding only using my machine, but still looking really neat on both sides. I'm improving, slowly. I just don't have the patience for hand stitching them down all the time, and with my stitching i don't think they would hold up as well in the long run.

    ReplyDelete
  14. What a pretty quilt! (The Constellations one looks pretty fantastic too, even in that little teaser picture :D Such great fabric, isn't it?)

FMQ is definitely a thing I could stand to improve upon, but also maybe time management. Which is a less fun thing to work on, but still needs doing!

  144. What a gorgeous quilt! Well done and love your fabric choices, my youngest son had bibs with some if these fabrics and now my youngest daughter gets to wear them but thankfully she is not as refluxy as he was! His name is Wyn, so we used to call him Wynnie the Spew.. Ok, bad taste and I digress! Would love to improve my FMQ too :)
    Thanks again!

  151. I would like to improve on my finishing skills as I struggle to finish anything! I only sew in the evenings so I dip in and out of projects depending on how tired I am and concentration required from me, this means I have loads on the go but few actual finishes

  157. This quilt is outstanding! I can't believe you're giving a quilt away (says the women who has given away every quilt she has ever made.) I really need to make one for myself some time. Sheesh. I need to get better at that. Right now I am working on my pattern drafting skills. I have my first sewing pattern in the works now!
