Week 13 | Long Time Gone Sew-along | Flying Geese
We're getting so close to the finish!! Is everyone loving their blocks so far?! I know I am and I can't wait to start assembling the top! Today we're working on Flying Geese, one of my all time favourite blocks.
So many ways to play with geese! The colours in this one may be a little more than what I'm looking for in my quilt, haha. I haven't put it up with the rest of the blocks yet so we'll see!
General Information
Measurements for the pieces needed to construct this block will not be provided in Angie's tutorial. It is a pre-requiste of making this block that you have a copy of the pattern, Long Time Gone by Jen Kingwell. Measurements, where applicable, can be found in this book and it’s associated media.

I
have no hard and fast rule for pressing. I generally press my seams in
the direction they want to go. But
find a way that
works for you and be consistent with it. Here's a photo of the
back of one of my blocks so you can see how I've pressed my seams.
And when I'm working with blocks that have a lot of bulk in the seams I try and pinwheel my seams. Like this.
I've picked a couple of stitches out of the seam allowance so I'm able to press my seams to the side. The lay a lot flatter this way! And yes, the backs of these blocks are a hot mess! Apparently there's a lot I need to learn about sewing with a 9 week old puppy alternating between biting my ankles and trying to attack my machine pedal!
But from the front, not so bad! I lost a few points but nothing that would make me want to remake the blocks! For these blocks because I wasn't going scrappy I went with the four in one way to make them. It's a lot faster if you don't mind having four of each colour geese. Unfortunately that's it from me this week. Between Dottie the new puppy and my youngest home with strep throat and a fever the last 6 days, things have been a little crazy around here! So I hope you'll all forgive me for not having the rest of my flying geese blocks for you this week. I'll do my best to finish them up and post to Instagram as soon as I can!
